ALPINE DAYS 2018 and Jonah’s Baby Blessing

We started out Alpine Days even earlier this year! We started the Saturday before the actual parade with the Helicopter Drop (August 4th). Even the Tuttles and Spencers were here for it! It was so fun to be able to spend that extra time together. We all met at Creekside Park for the helicopter ping pong ball drop and then had dinner at the Grubers. We actually went home that night to sleep to prep for Jonah’s baby blessing that was the next morning.

the air was quite smoky all week because of recent Alpine Fire

the agenda

Jonah’s baby blessing day was wonderful! First off, Jonah did not cry during the blessing! That is a first for our little Gruber family. Jason gave a beautiful blessing. Those that were able to attend were Grandma and Grandpa A, Tyson, Camry, Kim, Kyle, Bryan, Great Grandma Arbon, Erin, Fa’a, Darnel and Meeya, Dylan, Aryana, Grandma and Grandpa Gruber, Karl, Alli and kids, Max and April and kids, Amy and Robby and kids. We had a large and wonderful group. After the blessing and pictures, we had brunch at our place. The food included: overnight oats, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, almonds, scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, and best of all...Alli brought coconut strudels, croissants, and coffee cake from Portos! It was delicious!

After the blessing brunch, we packed for the rest of Alpine Days and headed to Alpine for dinner and to celebrate Nancy’s birthday.

On Monday we played, Jason had to work for a bit (he also had to work on Tuesday and Thursday), went to the foam party, and had dinner at the Luau in the park. It was a beautiful night and a fun evening!

On Tuesday, we played, of course, and did water stuff in the yard.

On Wednesday, we did something new...something that became an awesome tradition! We journeyed to Upper Provo Falls for a hike and picked up the famous Kamas fritters on the way.

On Thursday we took family pictures.

On Friday we did a donut run, played at the church (including the traditional talent show and treasure hunt), and that night Jason and I made churros and peach ice cream.

Then there was Saturday, the day of the main event. We had races, the parade, the carnival and lunch, playing in the backyard, and the evening concert and fireworks in the park.

On Sunday, we kept busy as well. Our little family attended Dylan’s homecoming in Taylorsville, and then headed back to Alpine for the birthday dinner celebration of Max, Oliver, and Greta! We went home that night; Spencers and Tuttles left Monday morning.

It was such a fun week! The cousins had a ball sleeping in a tent just outside of the garage. Charlie did awesome and slept there every night, no problems! Sometimes it amazes me the things he can be brave about. Colson slept in the tent about half of the nights, the other half he slept on our floor. Jonah got lots of holding from the family. He was fussy while resisting naps, but slept well at night, which was a blessing. The kids spent a lot of time in their fort/shack they found across the creek. They made trails, clipped branches, swept the ground, created a museum of things found. It was so cute! They spent a lot of time on it throughout the week and everyone contributed. The kids watched a lot of America’s Got Talent (definitely the show of choice during the day). And, of course, we played lots of games and ate lots and lots of yummy food and treats. It doesn’t get better than Alpine Days! Here is a link to the short video Jason made of the week (it was made for George and Nancy's Christmas card that year...hence the Christmas singing at the end).

Can't forget about the lemonade stand!
