August 2017 - Hiking Groups and Charlie Starts Kindergarten

And now we’re into August (2017)...

I started the month off with a fun Girls Night. This was with the old PG friends: Kylie, Kara, Stacee. We had a delicious dinner at Braza Grill Express, then dessert at Swig (that we ate on the balcony at Harmon’s). As always, we had tons of fun and laughs!

With our summer hiking group, we attempted to hike Scout Falls, but without directions or experience with this trail we took the wrong path. We still had fun exploring a trail from Timpanoke Trailhead. It’s probably better off this way since returning hikers said that Scout Falls wasn’t really kid-friendly.

And then it was Alpine Days! This is always a family favorite. I will write about this next.

We had another Jostens Conference, this time in Boise, Idaho. I will also write about that in a coming post.

Jason took his annual fishing trip to Canada! He will write about that as well.

Obviously, we had some big events, trips, and activities this month. But when we were back at home, this is what we were up to:

In preparation for school, I took Charlie school shopping at Target. I was pretty excited to do this, and he seemed to enjoy it as well!

Our hiking group made it to Dripping Rock in Spanish Fork.

We went to Cowabunga Bay with Grandma Arbon. Whenever we drive past Draper, Charlie always says he wants to go there, so finally at the very end of summer we made it there with Grandma. They had a great time and the water in the lazy river was amazingly warm. They enjoyed the kid area, but the area with all of the slides wasn’t as popular with them due to the freezing cold water that is squirting out at you while you stand in the lines. I would also be way more interested in doing the slides if the squirting water wasn’t so cold!

One of the hikes we did with our little group earlier in the summer was Buffalo Creek. It is the one that is quite a drive to get to, but is short and has an amazing view of the valley. We wanted to show this to dad, so we went there at sunset. We got there a little later than anticipated, so most of the sunset was seen while driving up the mountain, but it was still beautiful.

We had a birthday dinner for Tyson.

Camry started coming each week (usually on Wednesday nights when Jason was away at mutual) to watch Bachelor in Paradise with me. It was really fun! Even when the show wasn’t that great, the chatting, laughing, and snacking was always fun.

At the end of the month, we went to the Ashton Gardens with Roman’s family. I always love going to the gardens!

That evening we had Charlie’s Kindergarten Open House. We had heard really great things from many neighbors about Charlie’s new teacher, Mrs. Jones. She had been around for a long time and we were really excited for Charlie to have her as his teacher. She seemed very nice and capable for working with and supporting Charlie. The next day, August 29th, was Charlie’s first day of Kindergarten! Charlie was thrilled and had been anxiously awaiting the beginning of school. He loved it and had so much to tell us. We just love how much Charlie loves school!
