Charlie 4.5 to 5

four and a half to five
(December 19 - June 18)

Charlie continued his second year in preschool. We had his IEP and Miss Reay said that Charlie was doing well and had really improved in the last few months. She said he was very smart and passed all of his cognitive goals. He was also doing better emotionally with transitions and socially with friends. Miss Reay said he was ready for Kindergarten! I was surprised and relieved to hear that. The previous IEP left us thinking we may need to look for another source for an additional year of preschool. Miss Reay said she thought he would be bored doing another year of preschool and that could lead to behavior problems. So moving on to Kindergarten would be a definite positive thing. I mentioned his newly developed stutter and we decided we would just keep an eye on that.

During the Christmas season, Charlie was obsessed with wrapping gifts. He would wrap them for us, for his buddies...using wrapping scraps that he would cut off on his own, or using blankets to wrap gifts. He also loved celebrating birthdays for his buddies with presents and pretend cakes, etc.

Here are more pictures of Charlie from the Christmas season:
So excited to be sitting at the kids-only table!

Killing it at Spot It!

There was a short spurt that he would say “What the fecker!” It was hilarious and always startling.

There are constantly papers everywhere! Charlie will go through tons of computer paper in a day. He will just go and grab more and draw stick figures or write names and words with a pen. He loves writing names in lists and in tables. He will write friends, family, and even make up his own names.

Charlie LOVES his buddy at school. His name is Roman Markle. Charlie says that Roman loves the Star Wars bad guys and the color red. Charlie quickly adopted those "likes" as well.

Star Wars Valentines for his class:

He has made a few comments lately that he loves cats and big dogs, not puppies. Not sure why.

Charlie doesn’t like many fruits, just bananas, grapes, and cuties. He doesn’t even like smoothies anymore. He is finally growing out of having yogurt every night after dinner, but he will try and eat most dinner meats now. We can generally bribe him to at least try most foods. A favorite food is definitely pizza!

He loves playing hide and seek.

He picks his nose A LOT! It seems more like a comfort thing because most times he doesn’t even get any boogers.

Charlie still loves organizing clothes and closets; he loves decorating for holidays and pretending to decorate for holidays using random toys and things. He loves helping me bake cookies, cupcakes, or any kind of treat. He asks almost daily if we can make something (of course we don’t) but he is always anxious for the next holiday to make something. He likes dressing up his buddies (our word for stuffed animals) in his and Colson’s clothes and making beds of blankets and pillows for them.

We ran out of pull-ups, so now he is potty trained at night. He went one week and no accidents. Since then we have had a few accidents in the night, but he is usually fine.

Charlie started riding his strider bike. He struggled at first, but now that is all he wants to ride. He thinks he is riding his bike without training wheels. He likes to “practice” and he feels very big.

He can pump himself on the swings and get pretty high. He loves to kick the big blue ball while swinging.

Charlie graduated from preschool! There was no “graduation”, but they did have a fun class “carnival” at the end of the year. Of course Charlie was very excited.

Celebrating the last day of school at his favorite place: Pizza Pie Cafe!

He loves playing in the sprinklers and with the hose, which is a surprising thing for one who cries when his clothes get wet.

He loves exploring in the mountains, climbing rocks, jumping streams, etc. It is really fun to see, and a little stressful. I love seeing his body grow and develop and to see his skills improve.

Lately he has been obsessed with looking at photo books and pictures in my blog posts. He will scroll through the blog on the laptop on his own. He has tried a couple of simple computer games as well.

Here are more pictures from the past six months:
