Once Jason got home from work, we picked up Cafe Rio on our way up to the campground. With two little kids, and a later start, we figured this would be the easiest dinner option. It would also give us more time to actually explore the surroundings rather than spending all of the time prepping, cooking, and cleaning up dinner.
The weather was perfect! It was such a beautiful evening. There were no bugs, no flies, no wind. It was just perfect! We ate, set up our tent, and then rode bikes/scooters around to see the other campsites. The boys went fishing in the muddy river nearby. The boys had a ball! They loved exploring, hiking, and riding their bikes. Once it was dark, we made a dutch oven chocolate dump cake. Yum! After putting the boys to bed, Jason and I enjoyed a little more of the fire before heading to bed ourselves.
In the morning, we made pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The boys then ran a muck, exploring the tunnel trees near us. Then we took them to another area within the campground that had a huge area of tunneling trees.
There was more fishing, then we played Go Fish. Before we knew it, it was time to pack up. We didn’t want to head home just yet though. We did a bit of the Three Waters hike and ate lunch there.
We had such a fun trip. We couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Our site was #23 and it had shade in the morning and evening. It was near a bathroom and close to the river. It was small, but all we needed. It was perfect. The boys expressed how much they loved it and wanted to do it again soon.
Here is a one minute video we did of our camping trip...it is on PicSkip's instagram.
