Jonah's Third Month

Two Months
to
Three Months

During this month, Jonah is still sleeping until about 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. He is nursing every two to three hours, with the occasional bottle if we are out and about.

I have been trying to nap him after one to two hours of wakefulness. He seems really fussy sometimes after feeding and changing him and being awake for less than an hour. I always try to swaddle him at that point and carry him around in the natural noise of the house until he falls asleep and stops crying. Sometimes it works like a charm, but other times it takes a long time and is very frustrating. During Alpine Days, Alli discovered that he liked to be held with his feet pushed to his chest facing out and walking around. That helped a bit.

He is pooping almost every few hours, but the times that he doesn’t poop he seems more fussy.

Jonah is smiling more in reaction to us smiling at him. It is really fun seeing him interacting just a bit!

It only took over two months, but we discovered a birthmark on his back. It is right above his diaper line on his left. It is a kiss-sized smudge, easy to mistake for an improper wiping.

Jonah’s cheek acne is so much better now! He still had some white pimples on his nose that weren’t going away and were only getting bigger, if anything, so I carefully started squeezing them out one by one to see how they would react. They did really well, so I continued squeezing them out one by one and waiting to see the reaction. Luckily they are all gone now and haven’t returned.

At Jonah’s two month doctor’s appointment we spoke to the doctor about his toenails. His toenails on his big toes are a little strange and go in where the top of the toe pops out, so the doctor said to just kind of rub the toenails down a few times each day. He was not concerned though. Here are his measurements:

Weight: 11 lbs 6 oz (11%)
Height: 23 inches (22%)
Head Circumference: 15.6 inches (49%)

Ever since school started for the older boys, Jonah has been pretty good at going to bed around 10:00 or 10:30 pm and then sleeping in until 7:00 or 8:00 am. It has been awesome, but I am not holding my breath that it will last long.

Jonah can support his weight on his legs for a few seconds.

Jonah hardly ever spits up, like ever! That is really lucky! He does drool a bit, but not bad at all.

Big news! Jonah was blessed by his dad on August 5th, right at the start of Alpine Days. That made it for a great family gathering, including out-of-towners! Here are the details shared in a previous post:

"Jonah’s baby blessing day was wonderful! First off, Jonah did not cry during the blessing! That is a first for our little Gruber family. Jason gave a beautiful blessing. Those that were able to attend were Grandma and Grandpa A, Tyson, Camry, Kim, Kyle, Bryan, Great Grandma Arbon, Erin, Fa’a, Darnel and Meeya, Dylan, Aryana, Grandma and Grandpa Gruber, Karl, Alli and kids, Max and April and kids, Amy and Robby and kids. We had a large and wonderful group. After the blessing and pictures, we had brunch at our place. The food included: overnight oats, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, almonds, scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese, and best of all...Alli brought coconut strudels, croissants, and coffee cake from Portos! It was delicious!"

Camping:

Here are some details about Jonah's first camping experience from a previous post:

"This year we had Jonah, who was two months old. This reminded me of camping with Charlie when he was the same age, except I was glad to have Jason with me. Jason was not on a surfing trip to Nicaragua. I do believe with Charlie, every evening my mom would drive down the canyon with me and Charlie where we slept in Draper and then returned to the campers the next morning. We were nervous how Jonah might sleep at night this year because he was still waking up a couple times in the night. Our plan had been to have me sleep in the back of the van with him. But luckily things worked out alright each night without that. He would fall asleep with us by the campfire, either in our arms or swinging in the car seat. If he wasn't already, we would transfer him carefully into the car seat. After the older boys fell asleep in the tent, and Jason and I were ready to go to bed, we would carry him in his car seat into the tent. Jason and I had separate beds (since the plan was to have me sleep in the van). I believe Jason had a cot and I had a pad. Jonah would sleep between us in his car seat, and when he woke in the middle of the night, I would bring him into my sleeping bed with me and let him nurse until he fell back asleep. He would stay with me in my bag for the remainder of the night. I was pleased with how things ended up. Sleeping with a baby in your sleeping bag is a little stressful, and your sleep isn't the deepest, but I felt good knowing he was warm and asleep."
