Alpine Days 2017

Hurray for Alpine Days! This has become a favorite time of year thanks to a newly started Gruber Reunion!

This year the Tuttles and Spencers arrived much earlier; they arrived the Saturday before. We joined up with them Sunday evening for dinner in Riverton. The definite highlight of the night (besides seeing all of the traveling family) was playing Dot Dot.

On Monday we made a stop at our house and then went swimming at the Provo Rec Center, this time in the newer outside area. It was tons of fun! We loved the big water slides and wave pool. We hit up Swig afterwards (quickly becoming a tradition).

At that point, the family took Charlie and Colson back with them to Alpine since they would be staying with them while Jason and I headed to Boise for our next Jostens Conference. We were so grateful to the family for taking Charlie and Colson in, making it possible for us to go. And how perfect for the boys to be able to spend that time with cousins! I will write about our trip in the next post.

Back to Alpine Days. We picked up Colson Tuesday night on our way back from Boise, but allowed Charlie to sleep over with the cousins another night. Jason had to work Wednesday and I had to pack for the rest of the week in Alpine. Colson and I joined back up with the gang in Alpine Wednesday afternoon and Jason came Wednesday night. The kids painted airplanes, we had dinner, everyone was playing and running a muck. Before we knew it, it was bedtime again and the kids (minus the littles) enjoyed their continuous sleepover in the tent outside.

Thursday was another fun day. George and Nancy reserved the gym at the church (another Gruber tradition) where we had a fun time scootering, playing basketball, soccer, frisbee, four square, treasure hunts, airplane flying, and of course the talent show. The older boys (including Charlie) had a special treat of walking home together from the church building. They even got to stop and get a treat from the gas station. They all loved it. And then we were back at George and Nancy’s for some fun party games, complete with a pinata!

On Friday we took an early morning tour of the newly remodeled MTC. It was quite the sight to see. It is beautiful and feels more like an academy. After getting back we were anxious to get to the Foam Party; however, we were slightly disappointed this year. There was no real foam slide this time. It was just a square on the ground covered in foam. I believe there was a slip and slide type thing going down the hill, but no foam there. I imagine after last years’ chaos and mayhem, they had to lay down some rules and change things up. I understand it, but it was still disappointing. We still lived it up afterwards, however, with a very fun water balloon fight.

Saturday was the big day! Most of the Grubers started the morning off with a 5K run, others participated in the Toddler Trot. Then it was the parade and lunch at home. After an already full and eventful morning and early afternoon, the kids were anxious to get to the carnival. That was really fun, as usual. And then the fireworks, of course! What a day!

The exhaustion after a fun day

On Sunday we went to church and then we were in charge of dinner with Alli. We made a teriyaki stir fry. We celebrated Max, Oliver, and Greta’s birthdays.

That evening, the Riverton Grubers and our family had to leave. After such a fun-filled week, it was hard to say goodbye, but real life was calling Monday morning. We left Sunday night and the other travelers left Monday. In sweet memory of the reunion, Capri left us with one of her carnival prizes: her goldfish. She had named him Clementine and we cared for him so she didn’t have to travel home with him back to California.
