September 2017 - Trips, Projects, and Paintballing

At the beginning of September we had our own “Super Saturday.” Jason made some wooden frames to go around the mirrors in the bathrooms AND a started on a new table for our office. On top of that, we took advantage of the Labor Day Sale at RC Willey and got a new couch for the front room. Finally! I feel very happy now; that room finally feels like a living room. Now we can have the ministering brothers and sisters over...haha.

The projects must have inspired me because I also updated the bed pillows and bed look in our bedroom. I got a new toy shelf for the family room. And we put backpack hooks up in Charlie’s room. All of these have been very nice additions.

On Labor Day, we were at Payson Lakes with the Arbons. It was a great day of relaxing, eating, paddle boarding, canoeing, walking, bike riding, fishing, floating, etc.

We finally had a windy day and busted out the new kites from Easter. That was a lot of fun.

The boys and I made a spontaneous trip to Midway with my mom, Camry, and Bryan. We went to the park with the ducks, we went to the cheese shop and bought some different flavored cheese as well as got some ice cream cones. Then we got pizza for dinner. What a fun afternoon of food! The boys then went bike riding/scootering around Zermatt and then we went back to the condo for TV, games with the boys, oreos, and cheese tasting the cheese we bought. After a very fun and eventful afternoon and evening, the boys and I drove back home to Orem.

With Charlie at school I invited friends over a couple of times a month. One day I had Amy and Jaleah over and we watched So You Think You Can Dance while eating lunch and while Colson napped. It was fun.

Jason had his YM Scout Camp at Potters Pond. They did some fishing along the way there, but never actually made it to the campsite. One of the other vehicles in the group had a freak roll over accident on the way up. To say the least, it was a very frightening and shocking evening. They took everyone to the hospital to get the boys who were in the roll over checked out. Thankfully, everyone was fine. There were just some bruises and scrapes. That was such a blessing. After getting some food at the gas station they decided to just take everyone back home. They got back around 1:30 am. I have learned that if I ever get a call from Jason during one of his camp outs, it usually is not good news. I dread it! I’m so grateful that everyone was okay and also feel so bad for Jason for having to carry the responsibility and stress of a situation like that. Geez!

The table that Jason was making was finally ready to be put in the office. We carried it in there and found that the sawhorses that we had gotten for them were too deep for the table, so Jason ended up having to get some table legs from Home Depot. It still turned out great and has been a major upgrade to our office.

And then it was peach season!! We LOVE peach season. We got a box of HUGE Angelus peaches from the Stratton stand and they were pretty good. We had our fill of peaches and cream, peaches and ice cream, peach shakes, baked peaches, and other peach desserts. Yum!

Charlie the Chef, making his own peach galette with the leftover scraps!

Speaking of peaches, our peach tree lost a branch:
(our peach tree has yet to produce any decent fruit)

We had a gathering with Tyson and Camry to watch the season finale of Game of Thrones Season 7. Tyson provides us with an edited version and we just love it! Seriously probably our all-time favorite show. We watched the last two episodes while enjoying a homemade peach pie, homemade salsa, and popcorn. Ah, what a great night and the episodes did not disappoint! Complete contentment bottled up into one great evening!

Jason was extremely busy with work at this time. He was working really long days and starting to train Jose (their newest employee).

Clementine, our original goldfish finally died. The kids were pretty  bummed. I flushed it down the toilet. The next couple of days Colson kept saying “bad Cutie” and “Cutie needs time out!” Cutie is the other goldfish still alive. Apparently Colson thinks there was some foul play in Clementine’s death.

On September 12 we officially started potty training Colson, which is very exciting and terrifying at the same time. Potty training is no small feat and is very exhausting. Luckily it went really well and Colson was definitely ready. He had two accidents his first day but other than that he did really well and could hold his pee for a really long time. He already understood pretty well how to go in the toilet thanks to months and months of going on the toilet before bath time.

We put on a small teacher appreciation night for the primary teachers in our ward.  I have also been busily working and preparing things for the primary program this month. This year was my year to write it and be in charge of it so it has taken a lot of my focus and a lot of time.

We planned to go camping the weekend of Stake Conference, which was September 16 and 17th, but we got a cold wave with lots and lots of rain. That does not make for enjoyable camping. As a result, last-minute we changed our destination to St. George. Luckily, we were able to book a condo at last minute with WorldMark. It turned out to be a fantastic trip and the boys absolutely loved it. They’ve still referred to it as their favorite trip to this day. I will write more about that in the next post.

Charlie started a Hip Hop class at the Orem Rec Center. We signed him up in hopes of helping him with his coordination and confidence, as well as give him a fun skill to try. He had class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-4:55 pm with other 5-7 year olds. The class lasted for a couple of months and they had a Christmas performance at the end of the season. He seemed to have a fun time. Colson and I often spent that hour at Target doing some shopping, some returns, and exploring their great holiday selection. Colson loved the Halloween and Christmas decorations.

(Charlie on far right)

Charlie’s Kindergarten class had their Dads and Donuts activity. Charlie loved it and really looked forward to it. They sang a song for the dads, made and flew paper airplanes, and ate donuts. Then Dad brought him home.

We had our annual paintballing event! It’s always such a blast. This year it was the weekend of September 23-24. We dropped off the boys with my mom on Friday evening. They stayed the night there and Jason and I went and camped at Cherry Campground. We did this so we could get up early and claim the field before any other groups. It had been raining for a couple of hours before our arrival, but once we got there, we lucked out with no rain and clear skies. The ground was wet and cold, but we could see the stars and it was just great. We picked up Wendy's on our way for dinner. By the time we finished putting up the tent, it was dark. By 8:00 am the next morning we were at Dead Dog Field. We cooked ourselves breakfast outside the car and waited for others to join. We had 12 people this year: me, Jason, Dan, Sammie, Marc, Kim, Kyle, my dad, Amy, Johnny, Nate Tadje, and his brother Aaron. It was tons of fun! It just barely started sprinkling as we were leaving the canyon around 2:00 pm. We seriously lucked out!

The boys at Arbons:

I had a Girls Night with Erin Markle, Roman’s mom. We went to Market Night at a nearby nursery. It was really fun. We both bought some amazing smelling earthy candles.

Kaden Hillam, my cousin, got married to Tabitha! Just as we have done so many times before, we headed to Idaho for the wedding. We left at 8:30 am and picked up my dad and Camry. Others were already there. We got there in time for the temple sealing at 2:00 pm. Then it was dinner at Sizzlers with the cousins, aunts, and uncles. I can’t remember the last time I ate there, but it was a fun change. Then it was the reception at the church with cinnamon rolls and milk. And just like that we were back on the road, heading home by 9:30 pm.

And finally it was General Conference weekend! We drove the Alpine Loop to see the colors on our way to Draper to be with the Arbons. It was gorgeous! Once in Draper we went to the nearby pumpkin patch to pick out some pumpkins, picked up Cafe Rio for everyone, and hung out while the boys watched the Priesthood Session in the basement. When that was over and the kids were in bed, we played Ligretto and Farkle. Bryan also took some of the group to Potato Hill to see the view at night.

The next morning we had pull-aparts and egg casserole for breakfast. For the second Sunday Session we went to Alpine to watch it with the Grubers. After the conclusion of another wonderful conference, we celebrated Mya’s birthday with dinner and cake.

And that sums up September 2017!
