Paul and Mandy invited us over for a Sunday dinner, which was so nice for me to be with other cousins related to Thayne. There is so much comfort in family.
Monday was Labor Day. The family wanted to take a break from the Payson Lakes tradition this year so we headed to Mirror Lake in the morning. We picked up donuts (since the famous Kamas fritters were all out thanks to the holiday craziness) on the way. We walked around the lake for a bit and had a picnic lunch before meeting up with Kim, Kyle, Mom and Dad at Upper Provo Falls. We had a great time doing that beautiful hike. Then we got to see the Hansen’s Cabin nearby in Oakley. We had a BBQ there, played outside, played Sequence, then made the long drive home. With all of this driving, it was a perfect opportunity to listen to an Audible book. “Proof of Heaven” had been recommended to us from Amy and Robby just weeks before, and it came at the perfect time as I was searching for peace and comfort while dealing with the loss of my cousin, Thayne.
Jaleah and I got back into watching SYTYCD each week, this time at her house, picking up lunch each time for us on my way. Such fun times!
Colson finally had his first day of school. He attended Blue Skies Preschool with Miss Heather (as mentioned previously). He was so excited! He also started his soccer season with NUCS, and he also had a ward friend on his team. So grateful!
We had Thayne’s viewing and funeral. It was amazing the love he had from others and the impact he had made. It was a very touching (and funny) memorial, and so many great things were said. We were also happy to attend the family luncheon.
Jason and I started watching Grey’s Anatomy together. It was a fun, but rather short little stint in our evening shows.
The boys had their first soccer games of the season. Unfortunately, they played at two different park locations. Charlie’s team tied 3-3 and he made one of the goals! He did great getting in there and kicking the ball. He has made huge improvements. Colson’s team won 6-5, with Colson scoring four of the goals. It was great!
The Bules invited us over for s’mores in their firepit. Such great new friends and neighbors.
We got tons of peaches from our peach trees! It was a dream for us! We had peach desserts every night, and for breakfast, and as a snack. It was just peaches all day long. We were stoked to have this amazing house that even had multiple peach trees! It was a house made for us!
Jaleah and Mark came over for Sunday dinner and to see the new house. We had burgers and hot dogs.
We went to the State Fair! Nancy’s sunflower won first place! We were very excited for her. And we got to see the circus that was there, that is always a fun, different treat.
We continued our Bachelor Night with Camry, Kim, and Kyle. This time it was Bachelor in Paradise. We especially love Bachelor in Paradise!
I finally got back into being more consistent with going to the gym. Since moving to Lehi, my gym became the American Fork Vasa. I would go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. Since transitioning Jonah to one nap per day, I could go to the gym at 9:00 am. This made it so I could go at the same time as our neighbor, Tori Savage, and her son, Brooks, would be there to make it more appealing to Colson. Otherwise, Colson was not really a fan of going to the gym. I had to bribe him with check marks. With the one nap transition, it also seemed to help Jonah’s other sleeping times, taking a three hour mid-day nap and sleeping in later in the morning. It went really well!
We had a fun outing with George and Nancy to mini-golf at Cascade in Orem. We golfed then had dinner at Bajios (since Malawi’s ended up being closed).
And then we were on to more soccer games. Colson scored two, and Charlie scored one. Both sets of grandparents came. Hurray for our fun cheering section!
We made peach freezer jam! So fun to do from your own peaches.
I thought ahead this year and shopped for Halloween costumes early. We had a Disney Store gift card, so we got Darth Vader, Poe, and Abu costumes for our boys.
We had Phillips cousins over (and Camry) to show them the new house. We had burgers and hot dogs.
Kim and Kyle stopped by to fill us in on a little secret...they’re pregnant!! We are beyond thrilled for them!
My mom came over and helped me jar more of our peaches.
One night when Jason was helping Charlie floss his teeth he found a pointy, sharp tooth coming down from the middle of the roof of his mouth! Jason thought he was wiping away a piece of food, when it wouldn’t budge and it was hard and sharp. I heard an alarmed “Emily, come here!” We were horrified! Luckily Charlie didn’t seem to notice and it didn’t hurt him. I took him to the dentist as soon as they could get us in the next day. We had been going to Save Dental in Orem so we went there first. They took some x-rays but referred us to a pediatric dentist. We were glad to find that we had a good one just down the street from us, Alpine Kids Dentistry. We headed there the following Monday. They confirmed that it looked like an extra tooth! Because of that extra tooth, his adult teeth were definitely crowding! We would need to pull that extra tooth, along with his existing four top front teeth. At least Charlie was excited to finally be losing a tooth. He was the only kid in his class who was yet to lose a tooth. That was the one silver lining in all of this. We would pull all of those teeth, and then when his six year old molars come down, we would need to work with an orthodontist and get an expander to help his adult teeth to come down. We could see in the x-ray that his top right adult tooth coming in is completely sideways, thanks to the crowding caused by that extra dang tooth. When all of his teeth are in, we will need to do a second round of orthodontics with braces. Poor Charlie has a long and hard dental road ahead. (we are still dealing with the consequences of this and no braces have been put on yet)
I had a fun excuse to get together with some of the old Orem neighbors. Kamrie Wong (the Lambson’s daughter) was having a baby shower in their backyard. It was fun to be there and catch up.
Then I was headed to my annual Girls Days with the Gruber in-laws. I will write about that in another post.
We tended Paul and Mandy’s kids while they had an anniversary date. We did a fun hot dog roast with the kids.
Jonah had his 15 month doctor appointment. We learned that his growing continues to be steady, but he is behind on talking. He says no words yet, he barely even says mama and dada. It seems nowadays the doctors are a little more patient with getting supplemental help for that. The doctor said it wasn’t something to worry about yet, that it would probably work itself out. But we would keep our eye on it for next time.
Charlie and Colson have been enjoying Friday night movie nights. They are in the basement watching Star Wars Kids, Lego Star Wars, or AFV while Jason and I watch our own show upstairs.
We had more soccer games. Charlie scored two goals in a game (so exciting), and Colson scored four!
While I was away at Girls Days I had special surprise ordered for them, Star Wars posters and wall decals for their rooms (among other things). They look sweet!
We got a ton of tomatoes from our garden, as usual. We made lots of yummy salsa. We also tried and made the Savages canned salsa recipe. That was a fun change.
We went to Mya’s birthday dinner.
Charlie and Colson are loving playing Bang! And Cover Your Assets ever since having Alpine Days and camping. I love seeing them play games together.
After a couple of weeks taking Charlie to and from school, and taking carpool turns with Savages, I spoke with some neighbors and figured out a way for them to ride the bus (walking through the Hanks’ yard at the end of the circle). Since then, Charlie, Brody, and Brooks have been able to ride the bus to and from school. Such a game changer! Luckily, Brody and Brooks were excited to take the bus for the first time.
I took some portrait style pictures of the boys to print in black and white to hang in the new play room. Here is a look at some of the fun shots I was able to get:
