Charlie's Second Month

Charlie seems to be growing and changing so quickly. We are thrilled to see his cheeks getting chubbier and chubbier and love to see the creases in his upper legs. In Charlie’s second month, we saw him getting less fussy....he still had his fussy times, but they started getting better. We saw a few smiles...more than just gas. It was fun to start seeing him reacting to our expressions.

At five weeks, Charlie slept through the night for the first time! We woke up to him crying at 7:30 in the morning, looked at each other and wondered if either of us got up with him in the middle of the night...neither of us had! We ran to the room to make sure he was alright...he was just hungry, of course. But we couldn’t believe it! He slept from 11-7:30. And he continued to do so from that point on (except for maybe one or two nights a week he would wake up once between 3 and 5).

He flipped over from his stomach to his back several times before turning two months. The first time he flipped was when my mom was tending him while we were on a date seeing The Dark Knight Rises. He then flipped a couple more times for my Aunt Erin while I was at a doctor’s appointment and Jason was at work. Every time he flipped it was for someone else...we had yet to see him flip. Finally, one day when Aunt Erin came to visit another time, Charlie decided to flip for me and the camera. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen him flip since then...so I’m thinking it was a fluke.

Hitting the six week mark was a pretty big deal for me. Six weeks meant my recovery was complete: I could start working out and lift things heavier than just Charlie. When I went for my check-up, I was shocked to find out that I was back to my starting pre-pregnancy weight! I was actually half a pound less than my starting weight! That felt amazing and was very encouraging.

As I mentioned before, at this time Charlie was becoming more and more alert and wiggly. He would start to get fussy when he was tired but he would never sleep very long during the day. He would take 15-30 minute catnaps. That was quite frustrating for momma, but I would take night time sleeping over daytime napping any day. Beggars can’t be choosers...and I was begging for a night-sleeper.

Charlie loves his bath time. He must take after me...I also love to sit in the warm water. His typical night time routine includes a nice warm bath and nursing him until he falls asleep.

By two months, Charlie had grown to about twelve pounds and was growing more strawberry red in his hair.  His cries were deep...Uncle Bryan said he sounded like a quacking duck. We had many visitors. My friend, Amy, and my Aunt Erin would come and visit about once a week each. So our weeks were filled with lots of friends and attention. On top of the action from friends, Charlie spent a huge part of the day watching the 2012 London Olympics. It was constantly playing in the background. Charlie would wake up to the Olympics and fall asleep to the Olympics. What a great way to start out life...observing the worlds’ greatest athletes! I was so sad when they ended, wondering what in the world Charlie and I were going to spend our days doing now? The Olympics always come and go so quickly! Jason and I are already looking forward to the Winter Olympics!

And now time for my favorite part...the pictures:

As you can see, he is starting to show a blanket preference...an adorable blanket from Jason's Aunt Anette
