February 2018 - More Sledding and Valentine’s Day

At the beginning of the month, after arriving home from the cruise, I was dealing with the flu. Not fun. This pregnancy it seemed like my immune system was so susceptible to any sickness that came near me. I was constantly getting sick.

Jason (Everlast Surrounds) officially contracted with Century Communities. We were both very excited about that.

The Winter Olympics began! We love the Olympics in any season. Kim and Kyle came over to celebrate with homemade french fries.

Jason was his handy-man self and installed can lights in our kitchen. He conceived and did the work all himself. I was so impressed. It definitely brightened and modernized that area. After successfully doing those lights, he continued into the front room and installed some in there as well in March.

It was February, so of course we made Valentines cookies.

On Valentine’s Day, we had a pink heart breakfast with banana pancakes, bacon, and eggs. We delivered Valentines to friends. For dinner we sous vide ribs and had biscuits and salad at home.

Mike and Kate invited us to their cabin up Spanish Fork Canyon. Kaitlyn’s parents purchased a home and totally fixed up it. This way the family would have a place to stay when they were all gathered for Christmas and they could live there for part of the year. Her siblings like to come to Utah around Christmas for skiing, and Utah is much closer to California than Florida (where their parents usually live). We met up at Cafe Rio beforehand and then arrived to this wonderful home that felt like a legitimate log cabin. We explored the cabin when we arrived and were so excited. The boys were thrilled too. They played with Rudy (one of their favorite things), we played ping pong, drank hot chocolate and ate treats, watched the Olympics, and chatted. We all had a great time. In the morning we had a pancake breakfast, went sledding in the snow, ate DiGorno Pizza for lunch, drank more hot chocolate, and played CodeNames. The boys also enjoyed the cozy time by the fire, playing on the iPads to their heart's content while the adults lounged and chatted.

We celebrated Kyle’s birthday with a family dinner.

For Presidents Day, Jason got off of work a little early and we went sledding up Rock Canyon Park with the new sleds from Christmas. We were anxious to take advantage of our sleds at any chance we had since the snow this year was so minimal.

Jason measured, ordered, and installed new updated blinds for George and Nancy in their family room as a thank you for tending Colson during the cruise.

We went sledding again, this time at Mutual Dell.

One of the highlights of the month was Jason building a big sledding hill in our own back yard using the excess pallet boards he had stored on the side of our house. It was amazing! I can’t believe he built it and it worked so perfectly! The boys loved it and did LOTS of sledding on it. Thanks to the shade in our backyard, it stayed usable for quite a good amount of time. We got some lighter sleds that the boys could lift up and climb on themselves. It made for hours of independent play!

Charlie was accepted into the Spanish Immersion program for next year at Orchard Elementary. We were super lucky to have the option available to use at the school we were already attending. It is crazy how a boy who was receiving help for years for a speech delay could make such progress that his teacher would recommend him for the program. We were very excited!

After dropping our offer on the Salt Lake duplex the previous month, Jason decided to start looking at the options on Roofstock.com. Their seemed to be a lot of good options of properties in other states at a much higher return than renting here in Utah. Whether we had a rental property in Utah or not, we would be hiring a property management team. Jason, though extremely capable of managing himself, was already so busy with work, working after work, family time, and church calling (YM President), adding property managing to that was just not worth it at this point. It was more worth it to us to pay others to take care of it.

Here are some more pictures from the month:
