THANKSGIVING 2018

This year for Thanksgiving we were with my family. We got there Wednesday night and brought three pies with us for Pie Night. We brought a banana ice cream, an Oreo Pie, and Jason made an Apple Crumble Pie. Pie Night is a fun tradition where we dig into the pies the night before Thanksgiving to really give them the attention they deserve. Often times you are so full after the Thanksgiving feast that you don’t want to eat that much pie. Don’t get me wrong, we still eat pie after the big meal, but we eat what’s left after Pie Night (which is always still a lot of pie).

Thursday morning was spent preparing the food and finishing the table decorations. This year the setting included Charlie’s homemade Christmas card to everyone and an invitation to Mr. Frog’s Birthday Party in March (Mr. Frog being one of Charlie’s stuffed animals). It was really cute. I had already made and brought the cranberry sauce, raspberry pretzel Jell-O salad, and the sweet potatoes, so the day of we were busy deep frying the turkey and making the stuffing.

Kyle’s friend, Christian, joined us for Thanksgiving because his family lives in Boise, Idaho and he was staying on campus for the holiday. The feast was heavenly as always! Great food surrounded by great people. So much to be thankful for!

That afternoon we played an intense game of Settlers of Catan.

On Friday, we had a mini-birthday party for Bryan since he would be in the MTC on his mission for his birthday. This party included a sign, simple games, and cake. We also had to get new tires on the van. On the way to picking up the van, Bryan treated me to Swig with one of the gift cards that he needed to use up. It was a sweet little outing for the two of us. Earlier that day, Jason and Bryan went to Costco together to capitalize on a great deal on turkeys. They got an 18 pound turkey for $4! It was a dollar a pound, plus an additional $15 off coupon. You just can’t beat that. So we fried up another turkey that weekend!

Dad took the boys on a donut run

On Saturday night we had Navajo tacos and the Phillips boys came to play Age of Empires. Always a very late night!

On Sunday, we went to church and stayed until after dinner before heading home.

Throughout the weekend, we enjoyed lots of leftover food, which we loved, and lots of leftover pie. We watched a couple of movies like Mission Impossible and Incredibles 2. We played other games like Sequence, Stuff Happens, Telestrations, Eye Found It, and Spot it. We also had fun doing puzzles and decorating a gingerbread house. We got a couple of little crafts for the boys to do during down time. Oh, and of course, lots and lots of VR! Charlie and Colson loved it, but Colson had an especially long attention span for it and spent a lot of time with Tyson doing different VR games and loved it.

And that pretty well sums up our Thanksgiving Break! It was wonderful!
